Angela discovered her love of writing at Primary School when a short piece on the rocks and the sea gained her the only merit point she ever got. She wrote the stories that burned inside and then stored them safely in a desk drawer. After much urging from her partner she began to enter short story competitions in Writer’s News resulting in a win and three short listed entries. She self-published two of her earlier works before concentrating on hertrue passion – Crime. After many, many submissions she signed an 8 book deal with Bookouture as their first crime author. She lives in the Black Country with her partner, their bouncy Labrador and potty-mouthed parrot.

Interview with Angie Marsons
A few bits of information taken from various sites about Angie: She lives in the Black Country with her partner, their bouncy Labrador and a swearing parrot. She first discovered her love of writing at Junior School when actual lessons came second to watching other people and quietly making up her own stories about them. Her report card invariably read "Angela would do well if she minded her own business as well as she minds other people's".So, what do I know about Angie? Well, I know I have read and fallen in love with her series of books. I know that she is a pretty ‘hot name’ in this genre at the moment. What I don’t know is much more about her than that…hence the Q&A. Now for those that have read some of my previous Q&A’s you may know I don’t like them to be all that serious. I do however try to get a few questions in relating directly to the book, so without further ado….
BCB: Angie, tell us briefly about your journey this last year?
Angie: Wow, where to start! This time last year I had just been signed by Bookouture and had no expectation of how it might go. It was a strange mixture of paralysing terror and ecstatic excitement. Not exploding before publication day was the first priority. The reaction to the books and to Kim Stone is far beyond anything I could ever have imagined. The dream for me has always been to write for a living. To earn my wage by doing something that I could no more stop than breathing. Every day I wake up and pinch myself to check this is all still happening. Even now I don’t quite believe it.
BCB: Kim Stone, where did the idea from her come from?
Angie: The first books I wrote were focused on the dynamics of character relationships. At the same time a character began to chirp away in my ear but I knew she didn’t sound like the most likeable character so I kept shutting her up. When I decided to try and write the kind of book I’d always dreamed of this character seemed to fit the story so I finally let her out of the box. Luckily, readers see past her brusque manner and lack of social skills to the driven, tenacious person that lives in my head.
BCB: Do you have plans to continue this series, or should we expect new stand alone books?
Angie: I am contracted to write 8 Kim Stone books altogether so I wouldn’t rule out stand alone books but probably not yet. I have so many ideas and cases that I still want Kim to investigate.
BCB: What’s next for Angie Marsons and Kim Stone?
Angie: I’m working on book four in the series. I already have notes for book five and book six. I think we may be seeing a couple of characters that have appeared before although it won’t be necessary to have read the previous books to know what’s going on.
BCB: Okay so Angie I think 4 questions is plenty, now it’s time for the Quick Fire Round, 10 questions and you can only choose one! Are you ready?
- Hot or Cold? Cold
- Morning or Night? Night
- Real book or E-Book? E-book
- Tea or Coffee? Coffee
- Trousers or Skirt? Trousers
- Flats or Heels? Flats
- Chocolate or Sweets? Chocolate
- Need for Speed or Driving Miss Daisy? Need for Speed
- X Factor or Strictly? X Factor
- News Reports…BBC or ITV? ITV
Okay so now the serious book related questions and the quick fire fun round is done, now is time for my kind of questions… some of which are completely pointless, and others which are just plain old nosey!
BCB: Tell us something we don’t know about you?!
Angie: My favourite ever Christmas present was a box containing 127 packets of crisps.
BCB: What was the last thing you ate?
Angie: Crisps. I like crisps with a sandwich. I like crisps as a snack. I like crisps with some crisps…
BCB: Have you Googled yourself?
Angie: No, never, not even once. Oh okay, YES! Although in the early days the front page turned up a delightful lady with the name Angela Marson with a few mugshot photos and an impressive criminal charge sheet. I was mightily relieved when that dropped a few pages!
BCB: Most embarrassing moment?
Angie: I would say trying to do my driving test after being struck with Bells Palsy. The left side of my face was (temporarily) paralysed and the instructor asked me what was wrong. The two hardest letters to say with half a mouth are B and P so I may have showered him a little. I did pass, though!
BCB: Who is your Celebrity Crush?
Angie: Like 90% of the population I’d have to say Cheryl Cole (or whatever her new name is).
BCB: Do you have any weird and wonderful phobias?
Angie: Moths. I hate them. I know they can’t sting me but the frantic flapping movement of the wings sends me running from the room until they are caught.
BCB: What was your most proud moment?
Angie: It has to be when the clock clicked to 00.01 on February 20th and I became a published author. That would take some beating.
BCB: How do you deal with a bad review?
Angie: I tend to read a couple of good ones to counteract it. I’m thicker skinned than I used to be. Now I’m quite philosophical and accept that not everyone is going to like it, although sometimes reviews can be quite cruel and personal. I don’t ever respond to a negative review and I normally forget about it within minutes. The worst ones are where the book has been poorly rated for non receipt.
I want to say thank you to Angie for taking the time to be a part of my Q&A, and thank you for being such an awesome author. I have thoroughly enjoyed your books and can’t wait to see what you have in store for us readers next!
