511IaHLXE1L._SY346_Synopsis: After a tough week, Tanya Kaitlin is looking forward to a relaxing night in, but as she steps out of her shower, she hears her phone ring.  The video call request comes from her best friend, Karen Ward.  Tanya takes the call and the nightmare begins.

Karen is gagged and bound to a chair in her own living room.  If Tanya disconnects from the call, if she looks away from the camera, he will come after her next, the deep, raspy, demonic voice at the other end of the line promises her.

As Hunter and Garcia investigate the threats, they are thrown into a rollercoaster of evil, chasing a predator who scouts the streets and social media networks for victims, taunting them with secret messages and feeding on their fear. Kat's Rating: 4/5
Kat's Review: Well, we finally we get book 8 after a two year wait! I am a huge fan of the Robert Hunter series and was so excited to read this newest release. As ever Chris Carter excels at dragging the reader straight back into Roberts world. The one thing he is outstanding at is making you feel part of the story. I would definitely recommend the series from the beginning however you could get away with reading it as a standalone (but where's the fun in that?). This latest story throws a particularly gruesome and violet killer in our paths. Karen is the first victim very early on in the book and if you have just eaten I would suggest waiting a while until you start reading as it's not for the faint-hearted, and certainly not for the weak stomached!

The crime scenes are particularly vicious and graphic and frankly quite stomach churning. I always take this as a good sign as when I start to get jittery it means I am 'feeling' the story that much it physically impacts me. What I loved was the stellar pairing of Robert alongside his colleague Garcia. This pair are meant to work together and although often Garcia can occasionally take a back seat, you the reader is aware if his presence. The story had a small element running through it regarding Robert's personal life, but as usual with work the thread barely unravelled, so maybe next time that may be re-visited.

I read the first half of the book in one sitting as the writing, characters, pace and general pull of this book was outstanding. The second half I devoured in a second sitting, so why the 4 stars? Well I have to be honest and say I was a little surprised at the ending, it all seemed to wrap up not only very neatly but extremely quickly. In comparison to previous books by Carter there always feels like a slow unravel but here it was a little bit "tah-dah, here's the killer". Technically, I should have rated it 3/5 but I refuse to allow gramatical errors to lessen my rating (unless it's horrendous). However (without sounding too pompous) I don't expect to see those sorts of errors in a fully edited and purchased Kindle book. Once again this was definitely an excellent read, however I felt it was slightly let down by the ending.
