Kat’s Review: This is the first Lisa Jackson I have read and if I’m being honest I wish I would have started at the beginning of the series. Although I say that you can still read this without any prior knowledge of the characters. This book is part of a series featuring Detectives Regan Pescoli and Selena Alvarez. The book starts with the death of an unknown woman, who it transpires is actually a judge. Then we switch up to the local police and meet the guys there and before you know it the extremely popular Sheriff Dan Grayson is near to death.

Quite a lot packed in there but essentially the hunt then begins for the murderer. I quite liked the characters, and ended up rooting for Sheriff Dan! All of them seem flawed and quirky in their own way but very likeable. However, although I certainly enjoyed the book I thought it was maybe getting the balance wrong in terms of the split between romance and suspense. I think I may have felt completely differently had I read the series from the beginning (I knew I should have done that!).

Overall certainly an enjoyable book and I will certainly look for more of her books, but I think ultimately I will end up going back to the beginning and starting from book 1. I think this is the sort of series I would enjoy and think my own preference is to meet the characters from day 1.
